The Dundee Township Park District dance program has class offerings for 3-18 years & older. Styles of dance range from ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, Latin, musical theater and pointe. Dance is offered year-round with new class sessions beginning in the Winter, Summer and Fall. The winter/spring session includes a dance recital that is typically held in May. We have classes for all abilities and welcome all to come dance with us! Please feel free to contact Stacey with any questions at (847) 428-7131 x1203.
Note: Ages serve as a guideline only. Dundee Township Park District reserves the right to place dancers in classes suitable to ability. Costume fee is not included in the Adult Dance classes fee. Recital participation is optional.
Ballet – Leotard (black in color for level 3 and up), pink tights, and pink ballet shoes. All dancers hair must be up off their face. Hair must be in a bun for level 2 and up. Ballet skirt or dance shorts optional.
Tap & Jazz – Leotard or form fitting top, dance shorts, capris, or leggings, and tan tap shoes and tan jazz shoes (used for jazz). Hair up off face.
Hip Hop – Comfortable cloths that you can move freely in (no jeans) Hip hop sneaker, or gym sneaker. Shoes are for dance class only and cannot be worn outside.
Contemporary – Leotard and tights. Dance shorts, dance pants, or capris may be worn over leotard. Tan no lace jazz shoes. Hair up off face.
Musical Theater – Fitted top, dance shorts capris or leggings. Leotard optional. Tan Jazz shoes. Hair up off face.

Preschool Ballet I & II (3-5 years)
Learn beginning ballet techniques, basic positions, form at the ballet barre and creative routines.
Kinder Ballet (5-6 years)
This class will emphasize beginning ballet techniques and positions. Creative routines and form at the ballet barre will be taught.
Ballet I (6-9 years)
Ballet is a base for all dance forms that instills grace and coordination. This class will include proper placement, barre work, and center work.
Ballet II (9-12 years)
Proper placement and control to execute ballet moves will be included. Students will also focus on strength and flexibility.
Ballet III (9-12 years)
Redefining technique, the quality of movement and perfecting skills will all be included in this class. Instructor approval required.
Ballet IV (12-18 years)
This class will include redefining technique, the quality of movement and perfecting skills. This class is for dancers with prior training.
Pre Pointe (8-18 years)
Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development, not by age. Instructors will notify parents and students when they have the necessary strength and maturity to go on to pointe. An introduction to Pointe. Students should also be enrolled in Ballet II or III.
Pointe I & II (12-18 years)
This class will include barre exercises, across the floor combination and center work. Students must have prior ballet experience and be enrolled in Ballet III.
Contemporary II (9-18 years)
A style of expressive dance combined with classical, jazz, and modern elements to connect the mind and body through movement. Students must also be enrolled in a ballet class.
Contemporary III (10-20 years)
A style of expressive dance combined with classical, jazz, and modern elements to connect the mind and body through movement. Students will work on refining technique and performance skills. Additional enrollment in Ballet II or higher is required for this class.
Lyrical (9-12 years)
This class will include a free form style of ballet and jazz.
Hip Hop I (6-9 years)
Learn age appropriate dance moves to upbeat music with emphasis on rhythm and attitude.
Hip Hop II (9-12 years)
Join us in dancing to upbeat music! While emphasizing rhythm and attitude, dancers will also be encouraged to choreograph for a group.
Tap & Jazz (3-9 years)
Shuffles, Irish’s, flaps and other basic steps will be taught, as well as jazz steps and fun creative dances.
Jazz (7-10 years)
Learn fun choreography to upbeat music, as well as basic-to-intermediate leaps, turns and jumps. A perfect class for those who just like to dance. Prior experience dancing is helpful but not required.
Jazz Fusion (10-18 years)
This class will include perfecting jazz technique, turns and jumps. Students will focus on body placement, flexibility, and strength in a fun energetic atmosphere.
Musical Theater (9-13 years)
This class is an hour and 20 minutes comprised of both tap and character/ jazz, focusing on Broadway style combinations. Including warm-ups and across the floor. Both styles are the backbone of musical theater. In the recital, dancers will perform two dances one of each style.
Pom (8-13 years)
This class is an introduction into the style of Poms, focused on developing sharp movements and high energy choreography. This class is perfect for those who are interested in one day being on a middle school or high school poms, cheer, or dance team. Dancers will learn fun and challenging choreography while being taught proper pom technique and improving their strength and endurance. Come have fun and shake your pom poms!
Adult Dance Performance (16 years & older)
Adult Dance Performance Workshop is a separate class for adults who would like to perform in the spring dance recital. This class is solely for leaning and practicing the performance piece. There is no skill level requirement, all are welcome.
Adult Ballet (16 years & older)
This class is good for the beginner through the experienced dancer. Dancers can work at their own pace. Come for fun! Come for exercise!
Adult Beginner Tap (18 years & older)
This fun atmosphere will provide an introduction to tap, focusing on the fundamental foot work and techniques of tap dancing and rhythm. Routines will be taught.
Adult Advanced Tap (18 years & older)
Advanced tap goes deeper into the details of foot work and rhythm combinations along with still focusing on the technique behind the work. Participants will learn routines in a fun atmosphere.
Line Dance (18 years & older)
This fun class will include Country Western line dances as well as Latin.
Note: Dance classes are held in the Dance Studio in the Rakow Center.
