Dance
The Dundee Township Park District dance program has class offerings for 3-18 years & older. Styles of dance range from ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, Latin, musical theater, and pointe. Dance is offered year-round, with new class sessions beginning in the winter, summer, and fall. The winter/spring session includes a dance recital that is typically held in May. We have classes for all abilities and welcome all to come dance with us! All classes will be held in the dance studio at the Rakow Center.
Attire Guidelines
Ballet - Leotard (black in color for level 3 and up), pink tights, and pink ballet shoes. All dancers' hair must be up off their face. Hair must be in a bun for level 2 and up. Ballet skirt or dance shorts optional.
Tap & Jazz - Leotard or form-fitting top, dance shorts, capris, or leggings, and tan tap shoes and tan jazz shoes (used for jazz). Hair up off the face.
Hip Hop - Comfortable clothes that you can move freely in (no jeans) Hip-hop sneaker or gym sneaker. Shoes are for dance class only and cannot be worn outside.
Contemporary - Leotard and tights. Dance shorts, dance pants, or capris may be worn over a leotard. Tan no lace jazz shoes. Hair up off the face.
Musical Theater - Fitted top, dance shorts capris or leggings. Leotard is optional. Tan Jazz shoes. Hair up off the face.
Go to our store on discountdance.com for required class attire. It is not necessary to purchase directly from this website, but the colors of shoes and recommended attire will be shown for your convenience. The website will provide competitive pricing and purchasing convenience.
Note: Ages serve as a guideline only. Dundee Township Park District reserves the right to place dancers in classes suitable to their ability.
Preschool Ballet I 14300
Learn beginning ballet techniques, basic positions, form at the ballet barre and creative routines.
Kinder Ballet 14302
This class will emphasize beginning ballet techniques and positions. Creative routines and form at the ballet barre will be taught.
Ballet I 14303
Ballet is a base for all dance forms that instills grace and coordination. This class will include proper placement, barre work, and center work.
Street Dance I 14315
Learn age-appropriate dance moves to upbeat music with an emphasis on rhythm and attitude.
Mini Jazz 14322
A fun, rhythmic style that introduces the basic jazz steps to young dancers. This class focuses on developing the love of dance and movement, as well as building self-confidence.
Tap & Jazz I 14350
This is an introduction to tap and jazz, focusing on the fundamental footwork and technique of tap and jazz dancing. This class is geared towards the dancer who has had little to no dance training. Class begins with a center warm-up and progresses to steps across the floor, combinations, and repetitive exercises. This class will create a strong foundation for the beginner dancer.
Pre Pointe 14304
An introduction to Pointe. Students should also be enrolled in Ballet II or III. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student's strength and physical development, not by age. Instructors will notify parents and students when they have the necessary strength and maturity to go on to pointe.
Ballet II 14305
Proper placement and control to execute ballet moves will be included. Students will also focus on strength and flexibility. More intricate jumps and turns will be introduced.
Contemporary II 14306
A style of expressive dance combined with classical, jazz, and modern elements to connect the mind and body through movement. Students must also be enrolled in a ballet class.
Contemporary III 14307
An expressive dance style combined with classical, jazz, and modern elements connects the body and mind through movement. Students will work on refining their technique and performance skills. Additional enrollment in Ballet II or higher is required for this class.
Pointe I 14309
Students must have prior ballet experience and be enrolled in Ballet III. This class will include barre exercises, across the floor combination and center work.
Ballet III 14312
Redefining technique, the quality of movement and perfecting skills will all be included in this class. Instructor approval required.
Street Dance II 14316
Join us in dancing to upbeat music! While emphasizing on rhythm and attitude, dancers will also be encouraged to choreograph for a group.
Tap & Jazz II 14351
Dancers will develop a keen sense of rhythm and balance. This beginner/intermediate level class is appropriate for the dancer who has had some experience with tap and/or jazz dance and is looking to continue training. This class will build the development of technique & terminology. Students will further develop skills, including musicality and sound clarity.
Street Dance III 14317
This class will teach more difficult street dance moves and focus on musicality and precision in movements.
Adult Tap- Level I & II 14325
This fun atmosphere will provide an introduction to tap, focusing on the fundamental footwork and techniques of tap dancing and rhythm. Routines will be taught.
Adult Tap- Level III 14326
Level III tap goes deeper into the detail of footwork and rhythm combinations while still focusing on the technique behind the work. Participants will learn routines in a fun atmosphere.
Music
Dundee Township Park District offers group and private music classes. We offer piano and violin classes.
Tot Rock with parent 14170

Baby Rock 14172
Wiggle and giggle with Baby Rock! A unique combination of sensory experiences with stimulating music and exercises to help strengthen and stretch your baby. Activities will include sing alongs, exposure to simple instruments and sensory props, bean bag massages, motion exercises, bubbles, and more! Theater
Performances are held at the Adult Activities Center (665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville) unless otherwise noted. All tickets are available for purchase at the Rakow Center.

Children's Theater- Guys & Dolls Jr. 14280
Guys and Dolls JR. follows gambler, Nathan Detroit, as he tries to find the cash to set up the biggest dice game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck. Meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they've been engaged for fourteen years without ever getting married. Guys and Dolls JR. takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, but everyone eventually ends up right where they belong. This is a tuition-based program, where all actors are assigned parts based on their auditions. Students will study the work of the actor/singer/dancer and use their gained knowledge to develop as performers. Rehearsals will take place on Tuesday evenings once a week. Tech week will take place the week of March 17 - 20; with live performances on Friday, March 21 at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 pm on stage at the Rakow Adult Activities Center. Each Actor will receive 2 free tickets. Others will be available for purchase at the Rakow Front Desk. Fee includes a t-shirt for the actor.
Love is a Cabaret- all ages Theater 14281
Love is a Cabaret- All-Ages cabaret-style show featuring the actors of DTPD to be held one night only on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 7 PM in the Adult Activity Center. Rehearsals will start on Sunday, January 5th, and go until Sunday, February 2nd. Tech rehearsal will be on Thursday, February 6th from 6 - 9 pm.
