Dance
The Dundee Township Park District dance program has class offerings for 3-18 years & older. Styles of dance range from ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, Latin, musical theater, and pointe. Dance is offered year-round, with new class sessions beginning in the winter, summer, and fall. The winter/spring session includes a dance recital that is typically held in May. We have classes for all abilities and welcome all to come dance with us! All classes will be held in the dance studio at the Rakow Center.
Attire Guidelines
Ballet - Leotard (black in color for level 3 and up), pink tights, and pink ballet shoes. All dancers' hair must be up off their face. Hair must be in a bun for level 2 and up. Ballet skirt or dance shorts optional.
Tap & Jazz - Leotard or form-fitting top, dance shorts, capris, or leggings, and tan tap shoes and tan jazz shoes (used for jazz). Hair up off the face.
Hip Hop - Comfortable clothes that you can move freely in (no jeans) Hip-hop sneaker or gym sneaker. Shoes are for dance class only and cannot be worn outside.
Contemporary - Leotard and tights. Dance shorts, dance pants, or capris may be worn over a leotard. Tan no lace jazz shoes. Hair up off the face.
Musical Theater - Fitted top, dance shorts capris or leggings. Leotard is optional. Tan Jazz shoes. Hair up off the face.
Go to our store on discountdance.com for required class attire. It is not necessary to purchase directly from this website, but the colors of shoes and recommended attire will be shown for your convenience. The website will provide competitive pricing and purchasing convenience.
Note: Ages serve as a guideline only. Dundee Township Park District reserves the right to place dancers in classes suitable to their ability.
Hip Hop I 34315
Learn age-appropriate dance moves to upbeat music with emphasis on rhythm and attitude.
Preschool Ballet I 44300
Learn beginning ballet techniques, basic positions, form at the ballet barre and creative routines.
Kinder Ballet 44302
This class will emphasize beginning ballet techniques and positions. Creative routines and form at the ballet barre will be taught.
Ballet I 44303
Ballet is a base for all dance forms that instills grace and coordination. This class will include proper placement, barre work, and center work.
Hip Hop I 44315
Learn age-appropriate dance moves to upbeat music with an emphasis on rhythm and attitude.
Mini Jazz 44322
Learn fun choreography to upbeat music and basic to intermediate leaps, turns, and jumps—a perfect class for those who like to dance. Prior experience dancing is helpful but not required.
Pre Pointe 44304
An introduction to pointe. Students should also be enrolled in Ballet II or III. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student's strength and physical development, not by age. Instructors will notify parents and students when they have the necessary strength and maturity to go on pointe.
Ballet II 44305
Proper placement and control to execute ballet moves will be included. Students will also focus on strength and flexibility. More intricate jumps and turns will be introduced.
Contemporary II 44306
A style of expressive dance combined with classical, jazz, and modern elements to connect the mind and body through movement. Students must also be enrolled in a ballet class.
Contemporary III 44307
A style of expressive dance that is combined with classical, jazz, and modern elements to connect the body and mind through movement. Students will work on refining technique and performance skills. Additional enrollment in Ballet is required for this class.
Pointe 44309
Students must have prior ballet experience and be enrolled in Ballet III. This class will include barre exercises, across the floor combination and center work.
Ballet III 44312
Refining technique, the quality of movement and perfecting skills will all be included in this class. Instructor approval required.
Hip Hop II 44316
Join us in dancing to upbeat music! While emphasizing rhythm and attitude, dancers will also be encouraged to choreograph for a group.
Advanced Jazz 44356
Dancers will be challenged and improve their jazz technique. Learn new choreography and will have the chance to perform their routine at events. Prior dance experience is required. Final class enrollment is up to the instructor's discretion.
Hip Hop II 34316
Join us in dancing to upbeat music! While emphasizing on rhythm and attitude, dancers will be encouraged to give ideas on choreographing.
Adult Ballet 44323
This class is good for the beginner through the experienced dancer. Dancers can work at their own pace. Come for fun! Come for exercise!
Adult Beginner Tap 44325
This fun atmosphere will provide an introduction to tap, focusing on the fundamental footwork and techniques of tap dancing and rhythm. Routines will be taught.
Adult Advanced Tap 44326
Advanced tap goes deeper into the details of footwork and rhythm combinations and still focuses on the technique behind the work. Participants will learn a routine in a fun atmosphere.
Music
Dundee Township Park District offers group and private music classes. We offer piano and violin classes.
Tot Rock with parent 44170
This interactive class has everyone on their feet! We all learn together while engaging in active, creative music-based activities, while using rhythm instruments and movement props. Violin Lessons 44240
The Martin Lopez Academy provides professional group violin instructions to children from 3 to 18 years old. Instruction focuses on confidence, discipline, hand-eye coordination, concentration, memory, tone, and offers a fun, well-rounded and in-depth learning experience. Our teaching method introduces the violin to young children from the first lesson. Violin rentals are available at $25/month. Theater
Performances are held at the Adult Activities Center (665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville) unless otherwise noted. All tickets are available for purchase at the Rakow Center.

All Ages Theater Production 44280
We are seeking adult and youth actors to join us on The Christmas Schooner! The whole family will enjoy this heart-warming story of the first Christmas tree ship and the family who risked their lives to fill Chicago with the Christmas sprit. Based on the historic Great Lakes voyages of Christmas tree ships during the late 1800s and early 1900s, The Christmas Schooner tells the true story of a Michigan shipping captain who braves the deadly winter weather to bring Christmas trees to homesick German-American families in turn-of-the century Chicago. Rehearsals will be held on Sundays from 1 - 4pm from October 8th - December 3rd at the Adult Activity Center. Additional rehearsals will be added on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8pm beginning November 14th. Performances will be held onstage at the Adult Activity Center on Friday December 8, and Saturday December 9 at 7pm and Sunday December 10 at 2pm. Roles will be assigned based on auditions. Auditions will be held from 1-4pm on Sunday October 1. Please emailsteeple@dtpd.org or stop by the Rakow Center front desk to sign up for an audition slot. Walk-in auditions will also be permitted. You can register after getting your part.
Children's Theater Production 44281
Actors will learn all the elements of being in a full theater production by being cast in Peter Pan. Based on the classic story by J.M. Barrie, this musical adaption will feature all of your favorite Peter Pan characters. Students will learn how to act and project their voice, and will be taught choreography and musical numbers while gaining an understanding of stage direction. Rehearsals will take place on Thursday evenings once a week. Tech week will take place the week of November 6th with live performances on Friday, November 10th at 7pm and Saturday, November 11th at 2pm on stage at the Rakow Adult Activities Center. This is a tuition-based program, where all actors are assigned parts based on their audition. Auditions will be held on the first night of class and all participants will be asked to sing and read from the script provided. Each actor will receive 2 free tickets. Others will be available for purchase at the Rakow Front Desk at a later date.
