The Dundee Township Park District dance program has class offerings for 3-18 years & older. Styles of dance range from ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, Latin, musical theater and pointe. Dance is offered year-round with new class sessions beginning in the Winter, Summer and Fall. The winter/spring session includes a dance recital that is typically held in May. We have classes for all abilities and welcome all to come dance with us! Please feel free to contact Stacey with any questions at (847) 428-7131 x1203.
Note: Ages serve as a guideline only. Dundee Township Park District reserves the right to place dancers in classes suitable to ability. Costume fee is not included in the Adult Dance classes fee. Recital participation is optional.
Ballet – Leotard (black in color for level 3 and up), pink tights, and pink ballet shoes. All dancers hair must be up off their face. Hair must be in a bun for level 2 and up. Ballet skirt or dance shorts optional.
Tap & Jazz – Leotard or form fitting top, dance shorts, capris, or leggings, and tan tap shoes and tan jazz shoes (used for jazz). Hair up off face.
Hip Hop – Comfortable cloths that you can move freely in (no jeans) Hip hop sneaker, or gym sneaker. Shoes are for dance class only and cannot be worn outside.
Contemporary – Leotard and tights. Dance shorts, dance pants, or capris may be worn over leotard. Tan no lace jazz shoes. Hair up off face.
Musical Theater – Fitted top, dance shorts capris or leggings. Leotard optional. Tan Jazz shoes. Hair up off face.

Creative Movement (2-3 years/with Parent)
Use imagination as we explore the rhythms of dance in this fun and playful environment.
Preschool Ballet I (3-4 years)
Basic ballet technique and terms are taught while learning how to stretch, move and perform. Ballet barre is introduced with center floor and across floor routines. Students need ballet shoes. Last class, parents are invited for a final performance show.
Princess Ballet & Story (4-6 years)
Through story and dance we will take on our favorite fairy tales. Basic ballet steps and dances will have every participant feeling like a princess.
Kinder Ballet (5-6 years)
Beginning ballet techniques and positions will be emphasized. Creative routines and form at the ballet barre will be taught.
Ballet I (7-9 years)
Ballet is a base for all dance forms that instills grace and coordination. This class will include proper placement, barre work, and center work.
Ballet II (9-12 years)
Proper placement and control to execute ballet moves will be included. Students will also focus on strength and flexibility. More intricate jumps and turns will be introduced.
Ballet III (12-18 years)
Redefining technique, the quality of movement and perfecting skills will all be included in this class.
Ballet IV (12-18 years)
Redefining technique, the quality of movement and perfecting skills will all be included in this class. Instructor approval required. Instructor approval required.
Adult Ballet (16 years & older)
This class is good for the beginner through the experienced dancer. Dancers can work at their own pace. Come for fun! Come for exercise!
Pre Pointe (8-18 years)
Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development, not by age. Instructors will notify parents and students when they have the necessary strength and maturity to go on to pointe. An introduction to Pointe. Students should also be enrolled in Ballet II or III.
Pointe I & II (12-18 years)
This class will include barre exercises, across the floor combination and center work. Students must have prior ballet experience and be enrolled in Ballet III.
Preschool Tap & Jazz (3-5 years)
Shuffles, brushes and other basic steps will be taught, as well as beginning jazz positions and techniques. For new students.
Beginning Tap & Jazz (4-6 years)
This is an introduction to tap and jazz, focusing on the fundamental footwork and technique of tap and jazz dancing. This class is geared towards the dancer who has had little to no dance training. Class begins with a center warm up and progresses to steps across the floor, combinations, and repetitive exercises. Instilling a strong foundation for the beginner dancer.
Intermediate Tap & Jazz (8+ years)
This intermediate tap and jazz class is a great opportunity for those who have at least one year of tap and jazz and look to continue their training. Class begins with a center warm up and progresses to floor combinations. This class will focus the development of tap and jazz technique and terminology.
Teen Tap (11+ years)
This beginner/intermediate tap class is a great opportunity for those who have never danced or who are coming back into dance. Class begins with a center warm up, progresses to across the floor combinations and then a center combination. This class will focus the development of tap technique and terminology.
Kinder Hip Hop (5-6 years)
A perfect class for those who love to get up and dance! Learn age appropriate moves to upbeat music.
Hip Hop I (7-9 years)
Learn age appropriate dance moves to upbeat music with emphasis on rhythm and attitude. Coordination, strength and endurance will be enhanced.
Hip Hop II (9-12 years)
Join us in dancing to upbeat music! While emphasizing rhythm and attitude, dancers will also be encouraged to choreograph for a group.
Contemporary II (9-18 years)
A style of expressive dance combined with classical, jazz, and modern elements to connect the mind and body through movement. Students must also be enrolled in a ballet class.
Contemporary III (10-20 years)
A style of expressive dance combined with classical, jazz, and modern elements to connect the mind and body through movement. Students will work on refining technique and performance skills. Additional enrollment in Ballet II or higher is required for this class.
Dance Workshop (5-6 years)
Participants will experience the fun and skills of ballet, tap and jazz camp. What a great opportunity to find out what style of dance your child enjoys most! It also gives the students a chance to keep in step over the summer while preparing for our fall session.
Crafty Dancers Camp (4-6 years)
Your child will get moving with the basics of creative dance and ballet. Crafts will also be included, allowing each child to explore their creativity. These crafty dancers will stay busy as they learn creative routines.
Strength & Stretch Camp (10-18 years)
Come to class to stretch and strengthen. It is extremely important that dancers develop the strength to manage flexibility in order to help prevent injuries and prepare their bodies for the demands put upon them in their classes.
Turns & Jumps Camp (10-18 years)
Concentration will be on the technical aspect of leaping, jumping and turning while focusing on weight and direction changes. Dancers will strive for development of balance, strength, elevation and body alignment.
Choreography Camp (10-18 years)
Discover how a dance takes shape while appealing to an audience. Learn how to link steps together and see your ideas come to life. Create new dance routines and develop your own choreography to share with others.
Adult Dance Variety (16 years & older)
This class allows adults to experience the joy of movement, exercise, and toning the body. We will explore different music and dance styles. No prior dance experience necessary.
Line Dance (18 years & older)
This fun class will include Country Western line dances as well as Latin.
